2. Where does the money go?
Below lists the minimum operating expenses to run the program. These expenses vary each year, but we manage our expenses carefully to stay within budget.
3. Who are the volunteers of the program?
Our volunteer teachers are professionally trained from world class music conservatories , including The Juilliard School, The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, and Manhattan School of Music. In addition, the faculty for the program have on average over 20 years of teaching experience.
Our assistant volunteers are high school students who have more than 7 years of training.
4. How many students participate in the program?
In a given year, 30 to 40 students study in the program. Over the last 8 years collectively, we had nearly 300 students participate in the program.
5. What is the cost to students to participate in the program?
Once a student is accepted, there is NO cost to the student other than the cost of transportation to and from the program's studio.
6. How are the students selected to the program?
New and returning students are required to apply to the program every year. We request annual household income information to determine a student's eligibility to participate in the program.
7. How do students/families learn about the program?
We get inquiries solely from referrals from previous students and word-of-mouth.
8. Is this program limited to the students in the Asian American community?
No – it is open to all. Our student group is comprised of immigrant families from South Korea, China, the Philippines, Japan, Mexico, and more. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.
9. Where and when do classes take place?
Lessons are offered to students once a week in our studios located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, and New York City. A few students are learning virtually via Zoom. Most lessons are comprised of two or three students of similar level.
10. What instruments could students choose to learn in the program?
As of now, we offer violin and cello lessons only.
11. Who are the current and past sponsors of the program?
We have many individuals and companies that support us. We would not be able to sustain the program without the generous contributions and support of our donors.

- Instrument Purchase and Rental: subsidized prices for violins are $200 to $400 per instrument
- Instrument strings - $40-50 per set
- Sheet Music - $10-$20 per book depending on the level
- Shoulder Rest - $15 to $25 per item depending on size
- Annual Concert Hall Rental - $600-$800
- Summer Camp Budget - $1,500-$3,000
- Volunteer Teacher Holiday and End of Year Dinner - $2,000-$3,000
